Arts venues in Milton Keynes to receive over £2m funding from the Government

MK Gallery has been awarded £250,000

Venues in Milton Keynes are to receive over £2.1m in funding as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund.

Organisations such as the Bletchley Park Trust, Milton Keynes Museum, The Craufurd Arms and The Stables are some of the 1,385 cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support.

Milton Keynes South has had four local organisations awarded a combined £1,410,009 and Milton Keynes South has had four local organisations awarded a combined £746,255.

This funding will help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and ensure businesses have a sustainable future.

Local MPs Iain Stewart and Ben Everitt have welcomed the funding.

Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "It's really tough for our theatres, our museums, our venues. Our cultural institutions are taking a proper hammering at the moment and it's no fault of their own - it's the virus. It's great that we've got this money from the Culture Recovery Fund to make sure that our venues can keep the show on the road whilst we deal with this pandemic together."

Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South, added: “Milton Keynes is home to a diverse range of history, culture, theatre, and music organisations that are assets to many of my constituents as well as tourists from all over the country and the world.

“I welcome this funding announcement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as it will help these organisations in my constituency to weather these hard times of the coronavirus outbreak but still allow visitors to visit their sites.”

£257 million of investment fund has been announced today as part of the very first round of the Culture Recovery Fund grants programme being administered by Arts Council England. Further rounds of funding in the cultural and heritage sector are due to be announced over the coming weeks.
