Aldwyck retirement living community raise thousands for local cancer centre

An Aldwyck Housing Group retirement living community has raised £3,000 to benefit two charities – Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Cancer Centre Appeal and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Mount, in Simpson, Milton Keynes, has held a number of fundraising activities this year, including a jumble sale, 70s evening, garden party, cake sale and raffle.

A total of £2,500 has been donated to Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Cancer Centre Appeal, which is raising £2.5 million to help build a new cancer centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The remaining £500 will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

Karen Steeden, Scheme Manager, said: “Our residents and staff have done a fantastic job of supporting these two very worthwhile causes during the year, donating their time, effort and money to help make a difference.

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support do valuable work which benefits the people of Milton Keynes and the surrounding area and we are delighted to support these charities in any way we can.”

The new Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital will be a dedicated space offering treatment and a range of support services to anyone affected by cancer. It will be a welcoming and comfortable environment for cancer patients and their families, as well as meeting the increasing needs of a growing population in the Milton Keynes area.

Jenny Howells, Senior Fundraiser at Milton Keynes Hospital Charity, said: “We are absolutely delighted that The Mount has chosen to support our charity and help us make a difference to cancer care in and around Milton Keynes. The residents have raised an incredible amount of money and we are so grateful to Karen and everyone involved!”
