£5.7 million boost to Milton Keynes buses

Faster and cheaper service just the ticket, say MPs.

Bus rides across Milton Keynes are set for a major boost after the Government confirmed £5,757,000 for new investment for the city.

The funding will support improvements across Milton Keynes’s bus network, helping make journeys faster, cheaper and more reliable for residents travelling to work, school, healthcare appointments or around their local neighbourhoods.

The cash forms part of a wider £3 billion national plan to modernise bus services and give local areas more control. The recent Bus Services Act gives councils new powers over how services operate, ensuring essential routes that people rely on are protected.

Milton Keynes City Council will have greater control over bus services under the scheme, enabling decisions to be shaped by the needs of the communities that rely on them most.

“With multi-year funding and greater local control, we can finally deliver the reliable, affordable, and greener buses that communities across Bletchley and Milton Keynes deserve,” said Callum Anderson, MP for Buckingham and Bletchley.

When our City Council secured the Loop service, reconnecting residents in Shenley Wood, Woburn Sands and Bow Brickhill to our local bus networks, we saw what a difference reliable public transport makes,” added Emily Darlington, MP for Milton Keynes Central.

“It will make a real difference for communities right across our city, helping to strengthen our bus network so people can reliably get to work, school and the places that matter most,” said Chris Curtis, MP for Milton Keynes North.
