32 schools in Milton Keynes currently have confirmed cases of coronavirus

It has been announced that Milton Keynes Council has this week been giving advice to 32 schools that have had confirmed cases of coronavirus.

The high number was announced during the council's weekly COVID-19 update today (13/11).

Cllr Pete Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes Council, also announced that there have been "several outbreaks linked to secondary schools".

It is believed that these outbreaks refer to Ousedale School and Stantonbury International School which have reportedly sent a high number pupils home over the past few weeks due to confirmed cases, according to another local media outlet.

Ousedale School has campuses in Newport Pagnell and Olney, and both areas currently have high rolling rates that are considerably high for the size of the area. Olney and Lavendon saw 31 cases in the past week alone, and is slightly above the national average in terms of rates of cases.

Milton Keynes Council has said they are working with Public Health teams to understand the issues will take "any action that is required".

The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Andrew Geary, has said that his daughter's school has been affected by COVID-19. He relayed an important message today: "Staff have been at pains to stress that if classes or year groups are sent home to self isolate then that does mean to stay at home!

"Not go into school and certainly not to go off out socialising with school friends. Sadly there have been too many cases of this happening and this could potentially have a significant impact on the spreading of the virus even if you or your children are showing no symptoms of your own.
If your children do develop symptoms please ring immediately for a test by dialling 119 and the rest of the household must then isolate until the test results are known."

Current Government guidance is that all schools and colleges should remain open, and all young people must attend as normal unless there are any special circumstances.

Children should not be sent to school if they develop symptoms of COVID-19. They should isolate, get a test, and inform the school.
