City-Wide Events

During 2017 we are encouraging individuals, community groups and organisations to run their own events to be part of the anniversary year.

There are three key points in the year when we want everybody to get involved, by running their own events (whether communities, businesses or charities) and celebrating in their own areas and communities.

    These three points are:

    Birthday Weekend (20th to 23rd January 2017)

This is your chance to celebrate the actual Birthday of Milton Keynes (on 23rd January 2017) with an event or activity in your community, organisation or venue.

We are asking venues across Milton Keynes to open their doors for free, hold an open day and put on some celebratory events for local people.

For those organisations that charge entry normally, as we want this celebration to be accessible, if you can offer 100 free tickets (and slices of cake) we will put them into an online ballot.

Living Archive MK are coordinating the Birthday Weekend events. You will need to register your event with them by emailing: Registration will be open from October 2016.

    Let's Party Like its 1967 (23rd and 24th June 2017)

We are taking everyone back to the 60s and encouraging the whole city to party like its 50 years ago. Whether you want to hold a street party, a party in the park or rent out your community centre, we want to hear about your event. We will create an online events toolkit to ensure you are planning the best event you can.

We are also working with major city centre venues to organise a big CMK party event - with 60s music and dancing.

MK Council is coordinating events for Let's Party Like its 1967. To register your event please Registration will be open from April 2017.

    MK50 Heritage Open Days (7th to 10th September 2017)

Our annual Heritage Open Days event will be themed to MK50 for 2017, we will be looking for free heritage events that celebrate:

    - Milton Keynes' architecture, design and unique identity

    - Milton Keynes' pioneers, heritage and culture

    - Milton Keynes as tomorrow's City of innovation.

Living Archive MK are coordinating the Heritage Open Days events. You will need to register your event with them by emailing Registration will be open from February 2017.

We would like all events to help tell the story of the city over the last 50 years and to look to the past, present and future of Milton Keynes by meeting the MK50 Criteria (found here), and with its objectives for celebration, learning and legacy.
