For the first time this Autumn, The Courtyard Art Studio have teamed up with their neighbours, Claydon House National Trust to bring you their inaugural, open submission, art exhibition; The People’s Landscape. From a hugely inspirational body of submissions, the judges have selected just over 60 original paintings which will be displayed within the magnificent grand saloon of Claydon House from Saturday 7th September through to Wednesday 4th October 2019.
The theme for the exhibition is taken from the National Trust’s theme for the year; The People’s Landscape. Artists were invited to submit an original painting which they felt best reflected the theme. Submissions came in from artists across the country, from amateur to professional, and the selected works will hang alongside each other for the 4 week exhibition.
The Courtyard Art Studio’s Co-Director, Peter Keegan, who is also one of the judges, says “This is such an exciting opportunity to see the work of nationally and internationally renowned artists, right here in Buckinghamshire. We were blown away by the standard of entries for our inaugural exhibition, which made the process of judging that much harder for myself and my fellow judges. We are delighted to be able to showcase such a high standard of paintings and plans are already underway to make this an annual event.”
Oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache and mixed media pieces will all feature within the exhibition. All the work will be for sale with a percentage of the proceeds going towards Claydon House’s Conservation and Library ceiling restoration fund: The huge weight of the elaborate plasterwork has caused the library ceiling to bow and to crack. This year, conservators will carry out major works to stabilise the ceiling. In all, this vital conservation work will take three years to complete.
The exhibition will run from Saturday 7th September to Wednesday 4th October, 11am - 5pm, (closed Thursdays and Fridays). Normal admission prices apply; National Trust members enter for free.
Claydon House, Estate and Gardens can be found in Middle Claydon, Buckinghamshire, MK18 2EY. There is free parking, as well as glorious gardens to visit (separate admission charges apply) and The Phoenix Kitchen on site, making this a truly delightful location for a day out.
