SUMMER CELEBRATION in aid of ADVANTAGE AFRICA
featuring David Fanshawe's thrilling
AFRICAN SANCTUS
THE CORNERSTONE CHAMBER CHOIR, CORNERSTONE YOUNG VOICES, MK MUSIC SERVICE CHOIR & INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE
Directed by Adrian Boynton
David Fanshawe spent much time in Africa in his mid to late twenties absorbing African culture, researching African folk music, and making a unique library of location recordings. In 1972 he wrote the extraordinary 'African Sanctus', which blends dramatically and movingly, the authentic sounds of various regions of North and East Africa with the colours, rhythms and harmonies of Twentieth century Western music. An award-winning BBC film of 'Sanctus' was shown across the world in the '70s, & since then the work has received international acclaim. Our celebration concert will include other exciting works from the African and Afro-American traditions.
