Urbanist_9

Talented Milton Keynes street artist The Urbanist came to MKFM on Wednesday 28th September.

He set up outside the pod and created some customised t shirts for winners and an amazing canvas with the London skyline.

The Urbanist is an amazingly talented graffiti artist who specialises in airbrushing on shoes, clothes, walls, motor bikes, cars and canvasses.

The word urbanist is an abbreviation of Urban Artist.

Check out the photos from when he came down to MKFM below.

Here's a video of The Urbanist creating a London skyline design on a t shirt...

The Urbanist learnt how to spray paint using aerosols in 1989, and focused mainly on murals.

Through a series of trips to New York in the late 1990s watching graffiti artists perform in Times Square and Brooklyn, he was inspired to progress to his current art form, using airbrush equipment.

In his early days The Urbanist used footwear in which to display his designs, then, due to demand and fashion trends in South London he started to airbrush clothes, bikes and also interior walls creating a unique environment in which to show his art!

His popularity grew he opened his own shop in Camden, London. This was a well known tourist attraction. He continued to develop his own style of airbrushed artwork to meet the demands of the visitors and regulars who flocked to the market each week.

In 2006 he was asked to airbrush at the MTV awards and airbrushed "tattoos" on Nelly Furtado and her backing group. In 2007 he airbrushed Mika’s backing group. The Urbanist has also worked with Katie Perry's backing dancers, Keisha's backing dancers, Wyclef Jean and Snoop Dogg.

He's worked around the world at the Bahrain and Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prixs.  Other clients include J D Sports, L'Oreal Colour Trophy, Firetrap, Vogue, ITV, Plaza Oxford Street, Jazzy B (Soul 2 Soul) and IKEA.

Rihanna suing Topshop because she looks ‘ugly’ on the T-shirts

The real reason behind Rihanna suing Sir Philip Green’s Topshop is because she thinks she looks ugly on their T-shirt range.
