The Department for Education announce funding to develop three Centres of Excellence for Adoption Support.
The three Centres of Excellence aim to improve support offered to adoptive families.
Adoptionplus, an adoption agency based near Milton Keynes, will be working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council to lead on the development of a Centre of Excellence for the eastern region. Adoptionplus, awarded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, has a track record of innovation and is acknowledged as a provider of high quality adoption support.
Director of Services Joanne Alper says “Adoptionplus is delighted to be working with Hertfordshire County Council on such a pioneering project, we recognise integrated working is central to effective adoption support. Families need professionals to be working together with a shared understanding and commitment”.
Working together with Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk, Luton and Southend in partnership with Adoption UK, Health and virtual schools this Centre of Excellence aims to promote a cohesive approach to supporting families. The Centre also plans to provide resources for school counsellors, GPs and therapists working with adoptive families. Joanne adds “Families caring for children who have experienced loss and trauma absolutely deserve excellence in adoption support and we all need to work together to provide it. This Government grant of £500,000 will be spent on improving quality and makes the development of a greater partnership approach more achievable”
On hearing the news, Mark Lancaster MP for Milton Keynes North, said, “It was a real pleasure to visit Adoptionplus back in June. I saw first-hand the passion they have for helping children who often have very complex and upsetting backgrounds to find a family and give them hope for the future. So I am delighted to hear they are working with Hertfordshire County Council to develop improved adoption services in the region.”
