Herd About MK launched for MK's 50th Birthday

In January 2017, MK will turn 50 and Milton Keynes and its pioneers, design, culture and people will be celebrated through a number of events.

One of these schemes is Herd About MK, a not for profit project which will bring art to the city, while raising important funds for three incredible local charities – Willen Hospice, MK Community Foundation and MK Dons SET.

The project will see Herd About MK welcome 50 new residents to Milton Keynes in the form of 150kg, ‘life-sized’ concrete cows.

The team are then asking businesses to purchase a cow and brand and decorate it, before seeing it join the rest of the herd at four incredible birthday parades and taking part in a special treasure hunt.

Each showcase will take place at a different landmark site in the city and will be a sight to behold.

Herd About MK will be on hand to offer advice and guidance on how to find local artists, schools, or other local companies to make the cows’ design as vibrant and dynamic as possible, and will manage all parade logistics.

The 50th year will finish with an exclusive Gala Dinner, a prestigious event with a table of 10 included within the sponsors package.

Sponsors will also receive promotion of their involvement with the event in the press, on MKFM, as well as on the Herd About MK website and social media channels throughout the year.

All proceeds raised from the project will be donated to Willen Hospice, MK Community Foundation and MK Dons SET. Willen Hospice is an independent charity offering specialist care to individuals with life limiting illnesses and support to their families, while the MK Community Foundation support projects to vulnerable, isolated and disadvantaged people in the city.

Also working to improve the lives and experiences of the local community are MK Dons SET, who deliver education, health and wellbeing and social inclusion programmes.

Herd About MK Project Coordinators, Simeon Jackson and Rob Broekhuizen said: “Milton Keynes is synonymous with the concrete cows; attracting many comments from visitors and bringing smiles to the locals."

“Thanks to constant media attention, the concrete cows have become adopted by the city and we are delighted to be introducing 50 more of them to be enjoyed by everybody."

“If you are an owner of a Milton Keynes business, employ local people or have made a living from being in this prosperous city, now is the time to give a bit back."

“We sincerely hope you can join us and be a part of this exciting 50-year celebration of our city.”
